• M40 Sniper Rifle is a bolt-action sniper rifle used by US Marine Corps from Vietnam War and built from the famous M700 Military Version. It has had 4 variants – M40 which introduced in 1966, M40A1 in 1980, M40A3 in 2001 and M40A5 in 2009.

• It is different from the M24 using by US Army while they are all used M700 as basis and chambered 7.62x51 NATO (.308 Winchester) round.

• M40 used a short action bolt which designed for shorter cartridge like 7mm/08 Remington and .243 Winchester, but M24 used the long action for full-length cartridge like .30-06 Springfield, 7mm Remington Magnum and .300 Winchester Magnum.
